Utility Worker 2nd Shift

COMMITMENT TO TRIBAL MEMBERS SERVICE

Service encompasses all aspects of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indian's governmental operations. Every employee shares the responsibility to provide exemplary service, dignity, and respect to all Tribal Members, the Tribal Council, and staff members. To this end, all employees have an obligation to identify and report any service problems, issues, or concerns and through designated channels, initiate, recommend, and actively participate in solutions

SUMMARY

The Utility Worker will be able to perform all basic maintenance skills that do not require certification. He/She will also perform Housekeeping duties, all indoor and outdoor upkeep and general maintenance of the Tribal Buildings and parking areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To be punctual when reporting for duty 10:00am to 7:00pm or as scheduled by your supervisor.
  • To follow all rules, regulations, and policies of the Grand Traverse Band.
  • Must adhere to the confidentiality of each department where maintenance service is being performed.
  • Inventory and order supplies or equipment to be used in the performance of duties.
  • Must be able to perform all duties required of Housekeepers, which will include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and emptying of wastebaskets, for all offices, bathrooms and break room areas.
  • Must be able to change light bulbs inside and outside.
  • Will clean or check light fixtures routinely.
  • Will be assigned daily projects or special assignments to be performed according to priority, availability of staff and availability to equipment and supplies. All assignments or projects will have a timeline for completion.
  • Must be adept in the safe handling of all power tools.
  • Move and set up furniture.
  • Assist with maintaining supplies and organization of supply area.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor that are appropriate for the position.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • The Utility Worker must be willing to provide assistance to other maintenance staff as needed or requested.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Must follow OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and safety equipment recommended for use during the course of duty.
  • Must have good work habits, i.e., punctuality, and low absenteeism

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid Michigan driver's license is preferred. Employee may not drive any Tribally owned vehicles without being properly insured by the Tribe.

  • Various hand tools

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Balance, dexterity and motor skills are essential to this position
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb ladders
  • Shovel and remove show
  • Planting flowers, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubbery
  • Must be agile and flexible enough to work in a confined area or space

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to perform routine or preventive maintenance duties in all seasons of the year indoors or outdoors.
  • Must be able to move from location to location as work assignments may be changed or prioritized by supervisor.
  • Must be willing to work with other Technician levels or Housekeepers as part of a team approach to accomplish all tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

COMMENTS

Native American Preference will apply. Pass a criminal history background check with no felonies or serious misdemeanors and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy in regard to confidentiality is a must.
