Registered Dietitian

SUMMARY

This Registered Dietitian (RD) position will provide outpatient care in a clinical setting, conducts clinics at all locations including outreach, and will also oversee all aspects of the Nutrition Program. The RD will advise and counsel others on food and nutrition. They may explain nutrition issues to clients, assess the dietary and health needs of clients, develop meals plans for clients, gauge the effects of these meal plans, promote nutrition through public speaking and community outreach programs, and keep abreast of the latest research in nutritional and food sciences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Possessing or willingness to work towards Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification.
  • Experience with data entry and data analysis.
  • Must have a valid unrestricted driver license and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain patient confidentiality as per Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and complete HIPAA compliance training.
  • Provides nutritional care and conducts clinics at all locations.
  • Maintains exemplary demeanor and professional conduct in all dealings.
  • Works in a consultative, collaborative, and cooperative manner with GTB medical staff and Health Clinic employees.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication methods, skills, following appropriate chain of command. Communicates well with patients, families, team members to ensure effective therapeutic interventions and safe patient care.
  • Maintains and updates the diabetes registry, attends dietitian grant related trainings, implements best practices and care standards, participates in the Diabetes Care and Outcomes Audit, submits annual reports, annual application, and renewal application in coordination with the grants team.
  • Meets regularly with the Healthcare Administrator to discuss daily operations, and to recommend improvements for the benefit of the patients it serves.
  • Participates in outreach programs and public relation activities in the community. This includes the provision of care at outreach sites and care coordination.
  • Provides direct nutritional services to tribal members and others as authorized by the GTB Tribal Council, with focus on those suffering from diabetes and/or the elderly.
  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to the Dietitian-patient relationship as required by applicable laws and professional standards.
  • Makes best efforts to ensure that nutritional services provided through GTB are at all times rendered in a competent and professional manner, consistent with relevant quality assurance standards, and in compliance with all applicable statues, rules and regulations, and directives of federal, state, tribal, and other governmental and regulatory bodies, and applicable standards of the National Council on Quality Assurance and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
  • Provides reports and data as requested by Healthcare Administrator.
  • Serves as a visible role model for health and wellness.
  • Maintain necessary credentials for specialty licensure by attending appropriate continuing education programs. Attends other conferences and workshops necessary and appropriate for grant requirements.
  • Participates in staff meetings as requested.
  • Attends community and/or tribal meetings to provide input and education about community health issues.
  • Must submit annual reports, annual applications, and renewal applications, in coordination with the grants team.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Healthcare Administrator.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality including accurate and timely records.

  • Willingness to be educated and receive full training in the RPMS programs applicable to Diabetes/Nutrition.
  • Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
  • Uses good judgement in interpreting guidelines, in adapting department procedures, or in recommending approaches or solutions for specific problems.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership to groups.
  • Must be respectful, possess cultural awareness, sensitivity, flexibility, and demonstrate sound work ethics.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Possessing or willingness to work towards Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification.
  • Must be a trained nutrition professional who has met the strict educational and experiential standards set forth by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
  • Experience with data entry and data analysis.
  • At least one year of relevant experience providing direct nutritional care to patients OR possession of a master's degree in Nutrition.
  • BLS certification.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality including accurate and timely records.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid unrestricted driver license and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

General office equipment such as, calculators, computers, modem, copiers, fax, phone systems, etc.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires sitting, lifting, reaching, walking, and lifting heavy objects, such as a case of paper or tasks associated with home health care. Also requires manual dexterity to operate office equipment, keyboarding, copiers, etc. Travel throughout the six-country service area required.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

The employee uses judgement in identifying and selecting the most appropriate procedures to use, or in determining which of several established alternatives to use. Some deadlines are involved, so there is time pressure on occasion.

WORKING CONDITIONS

A good deal of work is performed in an office/clinic environment, but it is important to realize the work is performed at the all office locations and that you are expected to go on-site regular basis. Regular travel will be required. Use of a tribal vehicle or personal vehicle as indicated by individual circumstances. Must be flexible as position may require working evenings.

COMMENTS

Native American preference will apply. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy regarding confidentiality is a must.
