Pharmacy Technician
SUMMARY
GTB is looking for a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) who is ready to make a difference in the lives of their patients. Under the direction of the pharmacist, performs various functions in preparation, dispensing, billing, packaging, and drug distribution. This position will work collaboratively with the Health Administrator, pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other pharmacy technicians to give excellent care to Tribal members and all other 340B eligible patients.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Must hold a current State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license.
- Must be PTCB certified.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assists in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state, federal, and 340B rules and regulations.
- Performs duties as assigned by Chief Pharmacist, Staff Pharmacist and Health Administrator including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly in computer systems, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
- Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Reports immediately prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty.
- Handles telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.
- Processes (corrects and resubmits) claims for third party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assists and supports Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, such as, ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing of pharmaceuticals.
- Assists with interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat, and orderly in condition and appearance.
- Maintain patient confidentiality as per Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and complete HIPAA compliance training.
- Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
- All other position related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Responsible for understanding policies and procedures related to 340B compliance and how it relates to their duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must have competent math skills, including algebra. Must be proficient in computer skills, data entry and other software programs. Must be compassionate with a high level of service for our patients, staff and community. Must have integrity; always doing the right thing. Must have team building, organizational and staff development skills. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to multi-task. Must have a high degree of initiative, accountability, and independent judgment. Candidate must have a commitment to confidently.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
Previous retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
Previous 340B retail pharmacy experience is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Standing for long periods of time, frequent walking, and occasional lifting of 10 to 20 pounds, reaching, bending, kneeling, or stretching is to be expected.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a climate controlled medical office environment. The employee's work schedule may need to be flexible and adjusted according to business needs. The employee must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional, as well as able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Work may involve exposure to infections, communicable diseases, contaminated materials, bodily fluids, and radiation resulting in the need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, eye protection, rubber gloves and gowns. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary to attend meetings or training courses.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and be insurable for duration of employment. Must hold a current State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license.
Must be PTCB certified.
COMMENTS
Native American preference will apply. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy is regard to confidentiality is a must.
