Health Transporter

SUMMARY

The Health Transporter will provide transportation to medical appointments for eligible tribal members residing in the 6-county service area.

ESSENTAIL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report to work promptly, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or as needed according to transportation schedule/requests.
  • To be in compliance with the GTB Motor Pool policies and Procedures.
  • Monitor closely throughout each work day all resources for transportation requests: GTB Health Department, GTB Dental Clinic, Behavior Health Services, Community Health Representatives, Elders Department and the transportation hot-line
  • Provide prescription and medical supply pick-up and delivery for the eligible GTB membership.
  • Provide support to the Medicine Lodge mail pick-up and delivery system as needed.
  • Document transportation requests on calendar/schedule/log.
  • Daily logging of mileage accumulated.
  • Monitor the cleanliness of GTB vehicle(s) throughout the workday and report any damage or vehicle irregularities to auto shop staff.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality as per Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and complete HIPAA compliance training.
  • Other duties as assigned that relate to the Health and Human Service needs of the membership.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have good time management and organizational skills with ability to manipulate requests to fulfill the transportation schedule.
  • Good interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect. Common sense and great people skills are critical to the success in this position.
  • Must be very familiar with main roads within the six-county service area.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must have high school diploma or GED

Must have a valid unrestricted driver license and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a valid unrestricted driver license and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.
  • Must have appropriate endorsements for all vehicles required to operate in the performance of duties.
  • Must possess and maintain an up-to-date Chauffeurs License.
  • Must remain current in all requested trainings and always wok in full compliance with HIPPA and other confidentiality rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Must take necessary classes/training to obtain a CPR/First Aide Certification and maintain annually.
  • Must participate in workshop(s) for proper body mechanics and physical transfers with use of gate belt.
  • Must obtain annual physical/checkup to maintain "fit for driving" status.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

Automobile and general office equipment such as: computers, calculators, copiers, fax machine, phone system, etc.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires driving for extended periods of time in all weather conditions. Also requires manual dexterity and must be aware of demand to assist clients in and out of vehicle to include possible wheelchairs, walkers and other medical supply devices.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

The employee uses judgement in identifying and selecting the most appropriate procedures to use.

WORKING CONDITIONS

A good deal of work is performed on the road, in all weather conditions, with some work performed in an office environment.

COMMENTS

Native American Preference will apply. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy regarding confidentially is a must.
