Dental Receptionist

SUMMARY

A dental receptionist is the person who greets patients and potential patients in a dental office. A dental receptionist needs to be able to maintain personal records for both patients and for the office staff and use a computer well to input these records.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Some relevant experience working in a medical or dental office. Relevant experience in a dental office preferred.
  • Must have a valid unrestricted driver license and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONIBILITIES

  • Answer daily incoming calls with a positive voice; monitor voice mail, and returns calls
  • Meet and greet patients; check patients in and out
  • Pull & file charts; run daily schedules & route slips
  • Participate in the billing process as directed including submitting changes, posting payments, resubmitting claims.
  • Update patients Health History Form, Insurance and HIPAA
  • Schedule patients appointments for Dentist and Hygienist using software program
  • Schedule patients in specialty offices (upon referral)
  • Email referrals to specialty officers, along with reports and digital x-rays
  • Run recall cards monthly for Hygienist
  • Enter treatment plans in computer for each patient
  • Be available for training to update skills and other skills necessary for growth of the position
  • Collect weekly time sheets for each employee in the dental office
  • Maintain patient confidentiality as per Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and complete HIPAA compliance training.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have an understanding of dental procedures and anatomy of the mouth and teeth to be able to communicate easily with other professionals in this field.
  • Must have some knowledge of dentistry so that you can answer questions that the patients may have.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other areas and personnel with the Health Clinic.
  • Must work closely with, and under the supervision of the dentist.
  • Must have outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills are critical.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect.
  • Exceptional detail and follow-up skills.
  • Work requires proficiency in computer literacy, preferably in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and other Microsoft office products and database applications.
  • Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
  • Must have knowledge of principles and practices of dental and administration gained through education and experience.

WORK CONDITIONS

A good deal of work is performed in dental environment, but it is important to realize that some of the work is at the different offices within the Health/Dental Clinic.


COMMENTS

Native American Preference will apply. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy in regard to confidentially is a must.
