Compliance Officer

SUMMARY The Compliance Officer is responsible for observing and reporting on compliance with the regulations of the National Indian Gaming Commission, Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, Minimum Internal Control Standards, Tribal-State compact, the Tribal Gaming Ordinance, the Tribal Gaming Office Procedural Regulations, Title 31, in addition to the policies and procedures of the Casino.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a general understanding of the policies and procedures of each department and gaming operations in general.
  • Previous experience in compliance enforcement and records inspection is helpful.
  • Must have slot experience, knowledge of gaming software and SDS knowledge.
  • Three years of experience within the gaming environment is required.
  • Must have a valid unrestricted Driver's License and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Investigate and determine the facts on the casino floor, consider and evaluate the facts, and report recommended resolutions based on the evaluated facts.
  • Study and learn the contents of the Federal, State, Tribal/State Compact, Tribal Laws, Tribal Gaming Rules and Regulations, Casino Internal Controls, Title 31, and other relevant documents.
  • Ensure compliance through comprehensive review of existing systems by observations of gaming activities for compliance with Tribal Code, Tribal/State Gaming Compact, IGRA, and other applicable State and Federal Regulations including Title 31 of the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Participate in critical key control.
  • Assist with internal audits when necessary, documenting, and reporting their observations.
  • Perform regulatory functions, verifying signatures of gaming machines with the KOBETRON device, and verifying machine jackpots when necessary, as well as clearance and inspection of machines when being removed from the gaming floor.
  • Provide written reports that contain findings and recommendations for improvements in gaming operations as they relate to compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate the regulatory controls of the gaming enterprises and issue recommendations to supervisor to strengthen internal controls.
  • Help with maintaining a record of all new developments of gaming and make recommendations to ensure compliance of such developments.
  • Assist in the confidential investigations of customers and/or staff for fraud, theft, embezzlement or other misconduct.
  • Observe and report accurate information, summarizing the relevant details of an events in a concise and factual manner.
  • Maintain a record of all new developments of the gaming establishments.
  • Conduct investigations as requested by supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned by Gaming Regulator.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills are critical.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect.
  • Exceptional detail and follow-up skills.
  • Work requires proficiency in computer literacy, preferably the Windows operating systems, and use of other computer software. Must have knowledge of MS Access database applications and ability to import and export files into and out of this database format.
  • Must possess detailed knowledge of the GTB Gaming Code.
  • Must know and understand the gaming environment processes when conducting audits.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, rules, procedures, and administration is required.
  • Multi-task oriented.
  • Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Advanced knowledge of casino, slot, and table game control functions.
  • Ability to effectively establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend and evaluate comprehensive reports and documents as it pertains to the gaming enterprises.

General office equipment, such as calculators, computers, modem, copiers, fax machine, KOBETRON machine, phone system, etc.




TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires sitting, lifting, reaching, walking, and lifting up to fifty pounds. Also requires manual dexterity to operate office equipment, keyboarding, copiers, etc. Regularly requires verbally expressing or exchanging ideas of important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.


TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

The employee uses judgement in identifying and selecting the most appropriate procedures to use, or in determining which of several established alternatives to use. Some deadlines are involved, so there is time pressure on occasion.


WORKING CONDITIONS

A good deal of work is performed in an office environment, but it is important to realize that some of that some of the work is on the floor of both casino properties and that you are expected to go on-site on a regular basis. Must be able to work in a closed environment and in warm or cold temperatures due to the dissipation of the equipment. May be required to occasionally respond to casino when called during evening hours or weekends.


COMMENTS

Native American Preference will apply. Must be able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Must be able to work flexible hours and to take on additional responsibilities when asked. Must adhere to company policies regarding strict confidentiality
