Caregiver - Part Time

SUMMARY

The Caregiver position will assist in supervising and implementing the Benodjenh Center Child Care program in accordance with the policies and philosophies of the Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or GED certificate.
• Must be willing to work towards CDA and complete within two years.
• Must have a valid unrestricted Driver's license and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise children at the Benodjenh Child Care Center.
• Provide safely measures for children in the classroom, on the playground and on field trips or any other time the children are placed in the care of BCC.
• To guide each child's development while considering their interest, special needs, talents, pace of learning and cultural background.
• To share in the responsibility of the appearance and learning environment of the Center.
• To assist with routine housekeeping while on duty at BCC.
• To substitute or assist in other positions as needed.
• Complies with program operations in a manner that is consistent with the requirement of contractual agreements, laws, regulations and tribal policy.
• Attend Benodjenh Center staff meetings as required.
• Other duties may be assigned that relate to the overall operation of BCC or for the benefit of the education department.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect.
• Able to effectively establish priorities and meet deadlines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High School diploma or GED certificate.
• Must be willing to work towards CDA and complete within two years.
• Experience in another Child Care or Child Development Center preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a valid unrestricted Driver's license and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise the children.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

Computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, calculator, laminator, washer/dryer, thermoscan.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Regularly requires sitting and/or standing for sustained periods of time.
• Occasional work with child-sized furnishings and equipment is required.
• Occasional kneeling, bending, and sitting on the floor.
• Regularly requires verbally expressing or exchanging ideas of important instructions accurately.
• Frequent lifting of children 0-5 year of age (up to 40 lbs)

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately both verbally and written.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires staff to be in constant motion. Working with children between the ages of 3-12 years of age. Noise factor may be high at times. Indoor activities for most of the workweek. Will be required to go outside regularly.

COMMENTS

Native American preference will apply. Current and former Early Head Start and Head Start parents must receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy regarding confidentiality is a must.
