Background Investigator - Government

SUMMARY

Conduct background investigations including Criminal, Financial, Character, Employment, Residential and other reference checks for new applicants and current employees. Compile, report and file findings, including recommendations on suitability.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have high school diploma or GED, with some college and law enforcement knowledge.
  • 3 years of investigation experience.
  • Must have a valid unrestricted Driver's License and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Investigates pre-employment applications and current employees for criminal/civil/financial background activities and contacts employment, resident and character references.
  • Helps with managing and directing internal and external background investigations for suitability determinations for employment or the issuing of gaming license.
  • Makes a written summary report on employees and makes recommendation(s) as to suitability determinations.
  • Fingerprint employees and applicants for submission to FBI and NIGC.
  • Maintain files on current and past employees by continually monitoring and updating files with proper documentation.
  • Report on non-compliance issues to the Executive Director Regulatory & Compliance.
  • Submit activity reports to the Executive Director Regulatory & Compliance as requested.
  • Attends necessary training, workshops, continuing education, etc., as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director Regulatory & Compliance.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills are critical.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect.
  • Exceptional detail and follow-up skills.
  • Must possess detailed knowledge of investigation and interview techniques.
  • Work requires proficiency in computer literacy, preferably in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and other Microsoft office products and database applications. Must be proficient in ID Point software.
  • Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
  • Recognizes technical problems or deviations from normal procedure, and confers with immediate supervisor to resolve them after searching precedents to develop a recommended solution.
  • Uses good judgement in interpreting guidelines, in adapting department procedures, or in recommending approaches or solutions for specific problems.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must have high school diploma or GED. Some college preferred with some law enforcement and 3 years of investigation experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibility is required.


EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

General office equipment such as, calculators, computers, modem, copiers, fax machine, phone systems, etc., and fingerprint equipment.


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires sitting, lifting, reaching, walking, and lifting heavy objects, such as a case of paper or several books at once. Also requires manual dexterity to operate office equipment, keyboarding, copiers, etc. Should have corrected normal range of hearing and sight.


TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

The employee uses judgement in identifying and selecting the most appropriate procedures to use, or in determining which of several established alternatives to use. Some deadlines are involved, so there is time pressure on occasion.


WORKING CONDITIONS

A portion of work is performed in an office environment. Some work requires travel to our various properties. This requires a valid Driver's License and motor vehicle insurance for any vehicle used.


COMMENTS

Native American preference will apply. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy in regard to confidentiality is a must.
